Wine prices have gone up in California, like everything else. The same store ten years ago had many bottles of varietal wine for under ten dollars, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet, and all fine, drinkable wines. In March of 2018, this was about the cheapest that I could find at twelve dollars (after the Von's Club discount!). There's not even a reference to the grapes here, it's just a red table wine, and it was only okay, barely okay. The prices were nuts for everything.
"How nuts were they, Johnny?" One afternoon my son and I were heading back to his home and he suggested that we stop and get some burgers for us and his wife. We stopped at a place in Marina Del Rey that did, to be fair, look pretty up-scale. We ordered three burgers to go and the bill came to $48 (forty-eight dollars).
I don't know how people do it anymore.
