The Power Of Love

In spite of my generally ungrateful failure to appreciate the gift of life, I am very grateful for the power of love, the genetic imperative that soothes a woman's mood and allows her to tolerate a particular man for the duration of child-rearing. It gave me a good twenty-five or thirty year run of considerable happiness. What happens now is anybody's guess.

It's like that old joke, Fred: You've been happily married for 25 years; unfortunately, you've been married for forty years.

I used to say, "I've been married for thirty years and it's been twenty-six or twenty-seven of the best years of my life."
